Technical Information Update: Flood Affected Bosch Water Heaters

In order to address safety and service issues as a result of the current flooding of properties in various areas of Australia, Robert Bosch (Australia) Pty Ltd would like to advise the following.

ALL REPAIRS OR MAINTENANCE MUST BE PERFORMED BY A FULLY QUALIFIED, LICENCED PLUMBER/GASFITTER.

ELECTRONIC UNITS

Where there is an indication the water heater has been fully or partially submerged, any Bosch unit with connection to 240VAC power supply is deemed beyond repair and should be replaced. It is not advisable to attempt repair of these units as they may be left in an unsafe condition, even after repair.

MECHANICAL INSTANTANEOUS UNITS

The gas regulator is required to be replaced prior to attempting repair on the mechanical instantaneous units.

Where there is an indication the water heater has been fully or partially submerged, this type of unit may be repairable* by a complete service including cleaning and drying of all components. This function should and can only be performed by a licensed and suitably trained person.

Battery and Hydro Models (No connection to mains power supply)

As there is the danger of ingress of dirt and moisture to all parts of the appliance, it is strongly advised  that the gas burner, pilot burner, and gas valve be disassembled, cleaned, lubricated (where applicable), and checked for correct operation.

Pilot Models

As there is the danger of ingress of dirt and moisture to all parts of the appliance it is strongly advised  that the gas burner, pilot burner, and gas valve be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated (where applicable) paying particular attention to the magnetic valve assembly - it should then be checked for correct operation.

In all cases it is recommended that after servicing has been performed the appliance is checked for correct operation, the appliance is gas tight with no leaks of either gas or water, and gas pressures to the appliance & burner are checked & adjusted to specification.

*The decision to repair or replace remains with the attending licensed plumber/gasfitter.
